Exotic Newcastle Disease (END)

As a Bird owner, you should know the symptoms of END, the devastating disease of poultry and other birds now active in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas since October, 2002.  If your birds show signs of breathing difficulties, incoordination, or sudden deaths of your birds - call you local veterinarian.  Place dead birds in a plastic bag and refrigerate them until they can be brought in for a necropsy.  Remember that this disease is highly contagious and you should isolate any newly purchased birds for at least 45 days.  Although END is not a general health hazard, it can cause minor eye infection in humans directly exposed to infected birds.
